Joe Thuney and the Bears: Guaranteed Million-Dollar Extension
The Chicago Bears have reached an agreement with All-Pro guard Joe Thuney for a two-year contract extension, according to his agent, Mike McCartney.
The contract extension guarantees Thuney $17.5 million per season. This raises the total value of his contract to three years and $51 million, with $33.5 million fully guaranteed at the time of signing.
Thuney was acquired by the Bears in March, coming from the Kansas City Chiefs, in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in 2026. The player was entering his final season of a five-year, $80 million contract that he signed with the Chiefs in 2021.
Bears general manager Ryan Poles had stated that extending Thuney’s contract was a top priority for this offseason.

Last season, Thuney was recognized by his teammates as the Chiefs’ Most Valuable Player, receiving the Derrick Thomas Award in recognition of his selflessness in switching to left tackle at the end of the season.
Throughout his nine seasons in the NFL, playing for the New England Patriots and the Chiefs, Thuney has only missed two games, starting in 146. In 2024, he played 895 snaps at left guard before moving to left tackle (217 snaps), where he replaced Wanya Morris starting in Week 15 and protected Patrick Mahomes’ blind side during Kansas City’s run to Super Bowl LIX.
Thuney possesses the highest pass-blocking win rate (97.8%) in the NFL over the past two seasons and is coming off being selected as a first-team All-Pro in consecutive seasons. He was also selected for his third consecutive Pro Bowl in 2024.
