Nikola Topic to Undergo Medical Procedure; Delays Debut with the Thunder

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Nikola Topic has undergone a medical procedure, the team announced on Monday. He is expected to be reevaluated in four to six weeks.

The news represents a setback for the young player, who was looking to debut in the NBA with the champion team.

The start of the regular season for the Thunder is scheduled for October 21st, with a matchup against the Houston Rockets.

Topic, 20 years old, was selected by OKC at the number 12 spot in the 2024 draft. The Serbian point guard, 6 feet 6 inches tall, missed his entire rookie season due to a torn ACL.

In the Thunder’s first preseason game against the Hornets on Sunday, Topic played 31 minutes and recorded 10 points and seven assists.

In addition to Topic, the team will also lose another young prospect: rookie center Thomas Sorber, who will miss the season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
