The encounter, witnessed by current players and former NBA stars, as well as celebrities, began with Harper scoring the first points. Although both Flagg and Harper had a slow start, the excitement grew as they faced each other in the first quarter. Flagg, despite some defensive challenges, managed several trips to the free throw line, where he scored 8 of 13.

“I think it’s a new environment, a new scenario. They want to see me be aggressive and do those kinds of things. I think I did much better today, getting to the line, getting fouls, and that helped me feel comfortable and settle in early. I still missed a lot of free throws. I know my mother probably wasn’t very happy about that,” Flagg said.

The third quarter of Flagg was especially memorable, with a layup and a spectacular dunk, as well as a block at the buzzer.

“Just keep making the right plays,” said Mavericks summer league coach Josh Broghamer.

Harper also had highlights, including an impressive block. Harper finished the second quarter with a three-point play, giving San Antonio a 33-32 lead at halftime. Harper finished with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block, while Flagg achieved 4 rebounds, one assist, and a block.

“We’re going to play against them a lot this year. So the future battles will be great. Something we both have is that we are competitors. We’re going to go out and compete,” Harper said about Flagg and the Mavericks.
