NBA Celebrates Historic Christmas Day with Record Audiences
The NBA has recorded impressive viewership figures during its Christmas Day programming, marking its best performance in 15 years, according to the league’s announcement this Wednesday.
More than 47 million people in the United States tuned in to at least part of the five games broadcast by ABC and ESPN. This figure represents a significant increase of 45% compared to the previous year.
The average number of viewers per match was 5.5 million, which represents a 4% increase compared to the previous year.
The matchup between Cleveland and New York became the most-watched Christmas game in history for a game that started at 12:00 p.m. ET, averaging 6.4 million viewers. The duel between San Antonio and Oklahoma City also stood out, being the most-watched in the 2:30 p.m. time slot since 2017. Likewise, the game between Dallas and Golden State was the most popular at the 5 p.m. time slot since 2019.
The NBA also announced that it was the most-watched brand on social media during Christmas Day. The league’s content generated 1.6 billion views, a 23% increase compared to 2024.
