LeBron James Continues His Recovery with the South Bay Lakers

LeBron James has continued his training with the South Bay Lakers of the G League, showing encouraging signs in his recovery process. According to sources close to him, James did not experience any after-effects after Wednesday’s training, which is a positive sign after his first 5-on-5 practice since the first round of the playoffs, more than six months ago. The player, who will turn 41 next month, missed all of the preseason and the first 12 games of the Los Angeles Lakers’ season due to a sciatic injury, a nerve pain that affects the lower back and the right side of the body. James is training with the G League affiliate team while the Lakers finish a five-game road trip against the New Orleans Pelicans and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Wednesday’s training was “intense”, according to a source present, as James prepares to become the first player in NBA history to play a 23rd season.

In Thursday’s practice, led by South Bay coach Zach Guthrie, James actively participated once again, completing the 5-on-5 session without pain or discomfort in his lower back or right side. The Lakers plan to hold a practice on Monday in El Segundo, California, after the tour, and James could join if he continues to progress over the weekend. The Los Angeles team hosts the Utah Jazz on Tuesday and doesn’t play again until November 23, on the road against the Jazz.

Movements in South Bay

In other South Bay news, the team acquired Kobe Bufkin in a trade with the Motor City Cruise in exchange for a 2027 G League draft first-round pick. Bufkin, a 6-foot-5 guard, was selected with the number 15 pick in the 2023 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks. South Bay waived guard Jace Carter in a related move.
