Jeremy Lin Announces Retirement from Professional Basketball
Jeremy Lin, known for his impactful stint in the NBA in 2012 during his time with the New York Knicks, where he unleashed “Linsanity”, has announced his retirement from professional basketball. The announcement was made through a post on Instagram.Jeremy Lin announces his retirement
Lin, 37, recently played in Taiwan, where he achieved consecutive championships with the New Taipei Kings. In the inaugural season of the Taiwan Professional Basketball League, he was named MVP and then earned the Finals MVP award in the New Taipei Kings’ championship run. Before playing in China and Taiwan, Lin spent nine seasons in the NBA with eight different teams. Lin broke out with the Knicks in 2012. Then-coach Mike D’Antoni inserted him into the lineup in February when Carmelo Anthony was out, and Lin led New York to a seven-game winning streak. One of the highlights of “Linsanity” was a performance of 38 points and 7 assists in a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, surpassing Kobe Bryant, who scored 34 points in the game. Lin averaged 14.6 points and 6.2 assists in 35 games that season for New York. Lin finished his NBA career with averages of 11.6 points and 4.3 assists in 480 games for the Knicks, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors. He won an NBA championship with the Raptors in 2019, his last season in the league.“As athletes, we are always aware that the possibility of retirement is never far away,” Lin wrote. “I’ve spent my 15-year career knowing that one day I would have to leave, and yet, saying goodbye to basketball today has been the most difficult decision I’ve ever made.”
