Giannis Antetokounmpo leads Greece to the bronze medal at EuroBasket

In a standout individual performance, Giannis Antetokounmpo led Greece to victory over Finland in the EuroBasket bronze medal match, with a final score of 92-89. Antetokounmpo, star of the Milwaukee Bucks and NBA champion, proved his worth by scoring 30 points and grabbing 17 rebounds, thus consolidating his team’s victory.

We did it. This is probably one of the greatest achievements I have accomplished as an athlete. I know I’ve won an NBA championship, but there’s no feeling like representing your national team and 12 million people who breathe and live for this team. This is probably the greatest achievement so far in my life.

This victory represents the first medal for Greece in the EuroBasket since the bronze obtained in 2009.
With this result, Greece adds its sixth appearance on the EuroBasket podium, with two golds, one silver and three bronzes. From Finland, Lauri Markkanen, player for the Utah Jazz, contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds. Greece, which led the match from the beginning, reaching a 17-point lead, saw Finland trying to come back in the final minutes. Elias Valtonen had the opportunity to tie the game with three free throws with five seconds left, but missed the third. Antetokounmpo secured the victory for Greece by controlling the rebound and scoring two free throws. Greece had been defeated by Turkey in the semi-finals, while Germany defeated Finland. Turkey and Germany later faced each other for the gold medal.
