Derrick Rose: The Bulls Retire His Jersey on January 24, 2026

The Chicago Bulls announced this Thursday that they will hold a ceremony to retire Derrick Rose’s jersey on January 24, 2026. Rose’s iconic number 1 will be raised to the heights of the United Center after the game against the Boston Celtics. This recognition makes Rose the fifth player in franchise history to receive this honor, joining legends like Jerry Sloan (4), Bob Love (10), Michael Jordan (23), and Scottie Pippen (33). Rose, a native of Chicago, retired before the start of the 2024-25 season after a 15-year NBA career. He was selected as the first pick by the Bulls, his hometown team, marking the beginning of a memorable journey. During his eight seasons in Chicago, Rose left an indelible mark. He was named Rookie of the Year in 2009 and, in 2011, became the youngest player to be recognized as the league’s Most Valuable Player. In that same season, he led the Bulls to obtain the best NBA record, with 62 wins and 20 losses, and led them to the Eastern Conference finals, their best playoff performance since the Michael Jordan era in 1998. In addition to his time with the Bulls, Rose played for the Knicks, Pistons, Timberwolves, Cavs and Grizzlies, accumulating 723 games in his career and being selected for the All-Star Game three times. Last January, the Bulls had already paid tribute to Rose after his retirement. The mayor of Chicago declared January 4th as “Derrick Rose Day” in the city, and the team’s president and CEO, Michael Reinsdorf, personally informed Rose of the intention to retire his jersey.
