Christian Braun Secures His Future with the Nuggets with a Million-Dollar Extension
Denver Nuggets guard Christian Braun has agreed to a five-year, $125 million contract extension with the franchise, according to his agent, Bill Duffy of WME Basketball.
Braun, selected at number 21 in the 2022 NBA draft, has proven to be a valuable and constantly developing player for the Nuggets. The team’s senior executives, Ben Tenzer and Jon Wallace, prioritized negotiating a new long-term deal to secure Braun as a fundamental part of the future project.
The team announced the signing of Braun’s new contract, but did not reveal the specific terms.
Last season, Braun established himself as a starter and averaged 15.4 points, a significant increase compared to the 7.3 points of the 2023-24 season. He also recorded 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, with an impressive 39.7% three-point shooting accuracy in 79 games (77 as a starter). He was one of five players in the league to average at least 15 points and five rebounds, with 58% field goal accuracy, and the only one who did not play in the center position.
Braun’s growth as a guard is crucial to complement key figures like Nikola Jokic, a perennial MVP candidate, star point guard Jamal Murray, important forward Aaron Gordon, and newcomer Cameron Johnson. Specifically in transition, Braun brings offense to the Nuggets, leading the NBA in total fast break points last season. He became the first player with at least 400 fast break points in a season since Buddy Hield in 2018-19.
On the other hand, the Nuggets are not expected to reach a rookie contract extension agreement with Peyton Watson before Monday’s deadline, according to sources close to the team. Watson was the Nuggets’ number 30 pick in the 2022 draft.
