Zverev Reveals Mental Struggle and Feelings of Loneliness
London – German tennis player Alexander Zverev has openly shared his current mental problems, describing a deep feeling of loneliness. The statement comes after his unexpected defeat in the first round of Wimbledon against the French player Arthur Rinderknech, number 72 in the world. Zverev, currently the third-best player in the world, attributed his defeat to issues deeper than his performance on the court. The tennis player added that he feels “empty” and that this situation is not limited to his sporting career.“I feel alone out there sometimes. I’m having a hard time mentally. I’ve been saying it for a while since the Australian Open. I’m trying to find ways to get out of this hole, but I see that I can’t.”

Zverev revealed that he might consider therapy as an option to address his issues. “I’ve been through a lot of difficulties. Many bad times with the press, in life in general. I’ve never felt so empty. No joy in what I do. It’s not something related to tennis, I just don’t find joy outside of tennis either,” he affirmed. The tennis player concluded by saying that, although the defeat was in the first round, tennis is not the main problem he is facing at the moment. “It’s another thing I have to fix. It’s difficult to talk about it because I don’t have an answer. I have a month ahead until Canada, we’ll see what happens until then, but something in me has to change and it’s not necessarily something on the tennis court,” he added.“I don’t know, in general I feel alone in life, which is not nice.”
