San Francisco de Macorís – The Gigantes del Cibao have announced the incorporation of the experienced player Wilmer Difó, who joins the preseason practices of the Cibao team, preparing for the next season of the Dominican Baseball League (LIDOM). Wilmer, aged 33 and hailing from Santiago, brings valuable experience from eight seasons in the Major Leagues, where he played for the Washington Nationals, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Arizona Diamondbacks. This summer, Difó participated in the Mexican Baseball League, standing out for his ability to connect the ball and his versatility in the infield. He is able to play at second base, shortstop, and third base. In 2025, he played with the Guerreros de Oaxaca and the Leones de Yucatán, where he had a notable season, with a batting average of .281 and an impressive OBP of .400, demonstrating his ability to get on base frequently. The veteran also has five seasons of experience in the LIDOM and is preparing for his third season with the Gigantes del Cibao, consolidating himself as a key piece in the team.
