Toronto, Canada – The initial concern following Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s departure from Monday’s game has given way to relief for the Toronto Blue Jays. An MRI revealed that the Dominican first baseman is only suffering from inflammation in his left hamstring. Manager John Schneider reported that the player’s condition will be evaluated daily. Guerrero Jr. left the game in the fifth inning of the game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh, after giving his all in the third inning. In that play, the Dominican made a spectacular stretch to complete a catch of a shot from Bo Bichette, which closed the inning. Although he got up immediately, the pain forced him to leave the game shortly after.

“I wanted to test it a bit and be sure that I wasn’t going to aggravate it. I trust him and that he knows himself very well. We can’t afford to lose him for a prolonged period, so it was partly out of precaution,” explained Schneider.

The news that there is no major damage is crucial for Toronto, which has consistently relied on the resilience of Guerrero Jr., a player who rarely misses the lineup. The 25-year-old slugger is in one of the best moments of his season. Since the beginning of July, he’s batting .333 with an OPS of 1.012 in his last 40 games, including nine home runs and 24 RBIs, numbers that consolidate him as a key piece in the Blue Jays’ offense. The technical team will remain cautious in the coming days while Guerrero continues his recovery. For now, the good news is that the Dominican hitter will not be out for long.
