Villa González League Crowned Champion in Softball at the Juan Pablo Duarte Games 2025
New York – The selection from the Villa González League, representing The Bronx, won the final of the men’s softball at the Juan Pablo Duarte 2025 Games, defeating Team Los Barberos with a resounding score of 4-0. The event, which is being celebrated with great success in New York City, is supported by the Dominican Ministry of Sports, led by Kelvin Cruz.
The exciting encounter, which took place in a Manhattan park with a massive attendance, was dominated by right-handed pitcher Alfonso Pérez, who completed the six innings of the game, allowing only two hits and striking out four rivals. His performance was key to securing his team’s triumph.
The Villa González League opened the scoring in the third inning thanks to a solo home run by Jalfani Cruz, who hit the ball against Nelson García’s pitches. Two innings later, Jorge Trinidad hit a double that extended the lead and sealed the victory for the team managed by Félix Soriano.
The Juan Pablo Duarte Games, inaugurated on August 15 by Minister Kelvin Cruz, are promoted by the Government and President Luis Abinader, who has shown his support for the Dominican community in the United States. In this edition, more than 2,300 athletes compete in 24 sports disciplines and recreational activities.

Within the framework of the Juan Pablo Duarte Games 2025, the Polanco Academy, representing New Jersey, shone in basketball by obtaining two gold medals. These achievements highlight the talent and dedication of the young athletes participating in this large-scale sporting event.
The Polanco Academy prevailed in the 14-15 and 18-19 age categories, demonstrating their superiority on the court. In the 14-15 age category, the team defeated Manhattan with a score of 32-25, thanks to the outstanding performances of Rumarlin Gonzalo, Frank Valdez, and Adrián Ramírez.
In the 18-19 age division, Academia Polanco achieved a narrow victory over Manhattan with a score of 64-62, led by Darling Estévez, who scored 20 points. Academia Polanco had the participation of more than 100 athletes in various disciplines at the Juan Pablo Duarte Games.
