Venezuela Celebrates Baseball: March 17th, National Day

Caracas – Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez announced this Wednesday an important decision for national sport. March 17th has been decreed as National Baseball Day in Venezuela, a date to commemorate the historic victory of the Venezuelan team in the World Baseball Classic. The announcement was made during an official event at the Miraflores Palace, where ministers and government members gathered to celebrate the triumph. Rodríguez highlighted the importance of this achievement for the country and the need to honor the new champions. In addition to the holiday, the creation of a “Walk of Stars” was approved in Plaza de la Juventud, located in Caracas. This space will be dedicated to the players of the national team, immortalizing their names and achievements.

The idea of the “Walk of Stars” came from a proposal by the outstanding player Ronald Acuña Jr., who shared an image of the Hollywood Walk of Fame on his Instagram account, suggesting something similar for Caracas.

The vice president also reported that efforts are being made with the United States government and several Major League teams to facilitate a visit by the players to Venezuela, taking advantage of the break in spring training. On Tuesday, after the victory, Rodríguez had declared Wednesday a non-working day of national jubilation, with the exception of essential service workers. Venezuela won against the United States with a score of 3-2 at LoanPark Stadium in Miami.
