Mike Trout breaks home run drought and approaches 400

Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout ended his longest home run drought of his career by hitting his 399th home run in the Major Leagues. With this hit, he is only one home run away from reaching the remarkable figure of 400.

The expected hit occurred in the fifth inning of Thursday’s game against the Seattle Mariners. Trout hit a fastball with a 3-2 count thrown by right-hander Bryce Miller, sending the ball over the fence and tying the game 4-4 with a solo shot. Although the Angels ultimately lost 7-6 in 12 innings, the home run had a special meaning for the three-time American League Most Valuable Player.

Trout hadn’t hit a home run since August 6, accumulating 125 plate appearances without one. However, in recent games he had shown signs of recovery, batting .300 in his previous nine games.

The player himself admitted that the pursuit of 400 home runs had generated some pressure in August, although he stated that he is now focused on making “good swings” and letting the results come naturally.

The hit against Seattle was Trout’s number 56 against the Mariners, the most home runs by any active player against the same team. In addition, at T-Mobile Park, Trout has proven to be a difficult rival for the home team, adding 34 home runs in 95 games. He also historically leads in runs scored, extra-base hits, intentional walks, and total bases against the Emerald City team. With 21 home runs this season, Trout is on the verge of entering the exclusive 400 club, an achievement that will cement him as one of the most outstanding hitters of all time in Major League Baseball.
