Mike Tomlin Leaves Steelers After 19 Seasons
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has announced his departure from the team this Tuesday, marking the end of a 19-season era. During his tenure, Tomlin achieved a historic milestone: he never had a losing season, an unprecedented record in the NFL. Art Rooney II, owner of the Steelers, confirmed that the decision was made by Tomlin during a meeting. Rooney expressed his gratitude for the work, dedication, and shared success.Tomlin, 53 years old, is leaving the organization by his own decision, which opens up various options for the future, including a sabbatical, taking another position in the NFL, or venturing into the media as an analyst, where he already has several proposals. The output comes after the Steelers were eliminated in the American Conference wild card round, after losing 30-6 against the Houston Texans. Under Tomlin’s direction, which began in 2007, the Steelers conquered Super Bowl XLIII, qualified for the playoffs 13 times, and won eight AFC North championships. This solidified their position as one of the most successful coaches of the modern era. In the regular season, Tomlin accumulated a record of 193 wins, 114 losses, and two ties, while in the postseason his record was 8-12. Tomlin’s departure makes Pittsburgh the seventh team to change coaches after the conclusion of the 2025 season. Other recent departures include Raheem Morris (Falcons), Kevin Stefanski (Browns), Pete Carroll (Raiders), Jonathan Gannon (Cardinals), John Harbaugh (Ravens), and Mike McDaniel (Dolphins). With this exit, the Steelers bid farewell to one of the most emblematic coaches in their history and in the NFL, leaving a legacy of stability, competitiveness, and sustained success.I am extremely grateful to Mike for all the work, dedication, and success we have shared. His record of never having had a losing season in 19 years will probably never be repeated.
Art Rooney II
