Ranger Suárez leads the Phillies to victory over the Brewers
Venezuelan pitcher Ranger Suárez demonstrated his dominance on the mound once again, guiding the Philadelphia Phillies to a 2-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers this Thursday at American Family Field. This result not only secured the series for the Phillies, but also allowed them to consolidate their position at the top of the National League East Division.
Suárez shone by pitching six scoreless innings, keeping the Brewers’ offense at bay. His performance gave his team the opportunity to break the tie in the seventh inning, when Trea Turner hit a run-scoring single that made the difference on the scoreboard. With this victory, the Phillies extended their divisional lead to 6.0 games and positioned themselves 4.5 games ahead of Milwaukee in the fight for the best National League record.
Beyond the triumph, the day highlighted some strategic decisions by the team regarding the management of the outfield. Manager Rob Thomson chose to leave Nick Castellanos on the bench, a situation that has been repeated in six of the last 16 games, including two of the three games in this series against the Brewers.
Castellanos was only a starter in the second game, facing left-hander José Quintana, while in the other two games they preferred to line up Brandon Marsh, Weston Wilson and Max Kepler. “I’m going to put the lineup that I think is best to win every day. At this point in the year, there is no room for anything else,” explained Thomson.
This strategy suggests a possible rotation in the outfield, with Castellanos and Kepler sharing time in right field, and Marsh and Wilson in left.
In the mound, Suárez was once again the main figure, confirming the good moment of the Phillies, who are consolidating as one of the strongest teams of the season.
