Soto and Lindor Dismiss Tensions and Look Towards the Mets’ Future

PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida – At the start of the preseason, Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor have made their stance on rumors of supposed internal disputes in the New York Mets clear: the focus is on the 2026 season. Lindor, who returned to training after surgery on his left hand, assured that respect and mutual support have always prevailed within the team. The shortstop highlighted that, although not everyone in the locker room is “best friends”, there is camaraderie, communication and a common goal: victory.

We always want the best for the other. The important thing is that we go in the same direction.

The Puerto Rican player also highlighted the renewed energy that the new additions to the team bring. On the other hand, Soto was emphatic when talking about any past controversy. The Dominican outfielder emphasized that what happened in 2025 is history and that the group is focused on building a new narrative this year. During the winter, manager Carlos Mendoza described the team’s atmosphere in 2025 as “corporate,” although he clarified that there was always respect among the players. After a season in which the Mets finished with an 83-79 record and were eliminated from the postseason on the final day, the organization has experienced significant changes in its leadership. With contracts extending until 2031, both Soto and Lindor are fundamental to the medium-term project. Lindor accepted the responsibility of improving his performance and that of the team.

The goal is to win. We haven’t achieved that here, so it’s about being better every day.

Francisco Lindor
