Luis Severino Bolsters Dominican Roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic
Right-handed pitcher Luis Severino has confirmed his participation with the Dominican Republic National Team for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. This addition significantly strengthens the pitching staff of the Dominican team.
The news was confirmed by the Dominican team, which continues to receive positive responses from its main pitchers in preparation for the premier event of national baseball.
Severino brings experience, hierarchy, and depth to the Dominican starting rotation.
The pitcher comes from a 2025 season in the Major Leagues in which he made 29 starts, accumulating 162.2 innings pitched and registering an 8-11 record, with an ERA of 4.54.
Furthermore, he presented solid advanced indicators, including a FIP of 4.11, 2.77 walks per nine innings, and only 0.89 home runs allowed per game, demonstrating his ability to minimize damage from the opposing team.
Severino was also consistent in inducing ground contact (41.2% ground balls) and controlling the opposing team’s power (8.4% HR/FB), finishing the season with a WAR of 2.5, numbers that support his value in a high-level rotation.
With this decision, Dominican pitchers continue to support the defense of the tricolor flag, and Severino joins a team that aims high in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
