Ramón Santiago: A Chosen One of Success, Two-Time Champion of Dominican Baseball
Santo Domingo – Ramón Santiago, a baseball enthusiast since childhood, has cemented his name in the history of the Leones del Escogido. After a successful career as a player, now, as a manager, he has guided the team to a new achievement: the bicampeonato of Dominican baseball, securing their 18th crown. The road to the championship was not easy. Santiago took the reins of the capital team mid-season, when the team was in fifth position. With his leadership, he managed to revitalize a team that already had the winning core of the previous title. The Lions prevailed in a crucial game of the regular season, dominated the Round Robin and the Final Series, consolidating one of the most impressive postseasons in the history of the franchise.Santiago, who started the season as a coach and took over the management after Alex Cintrón’s departure, highlighted the collective effort as the key to success. With 12 victories in the Round Robin and four in the Final Series, the strategist equaled a franchise record with 16 postseason wins, although he emphasized the merit of his players. The leader will now lead the Leones del Escogido in the Caribbean Series in Guadalajara, Mexico, where the club will seek its sixth Caribbean title. This has been a joint effort. Thanks to the directive, to Carlos Peña, to Alex Cintrón and to the staff of coaches for the opportunity to work with them.
