Richard Bautista and Odalis Sánchez, Awarded by Abadina
The National District Basketball Association (Abadina) held its traditional annual awards ceremony, highlighting key figures in local basketball. Richard Bautista, player for the Mauricio Báez club, was awarded “Athlete of the Year.” In addition, the renowned journalist Odalis Sánchez was honored for his career in the sports field.
Bautista, known as “Manito” and coming from the El Caliche club of Cristo Rey, received the award in recognition of his outstanding performance in the TBS District 2025. His leadership was crucial for the Mauricio Báez club to obtain its tenth championship.
Odalis Sánchez, a sports journalist with almost 25 years of experience, was recognized for his dedication and work in covering basketball. Sánchez has been a pillar in the dissemination of basketball incidents in the National District, including tournaments of minor and superior categories of Abadina.
Sánchez also serves as the press director of the TBS District for eight years, and holds the same position in the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal) and in the senior men’s national team.
Other highlights at the ceremony included Jonathan Betances (Dom Deportes), recognized for his work on social media, and the El Caliche club of Cristo Rey, awarded for its “More Development”.
The event, chaired by Edwin Castillo (Tatico), took place at the Volleyball Training Center of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The “Club of the Year” award went to Bameso.
The directors of Abadina were present at the ceremony, including Héctor Junior Gil, José -Boyón- Domínguez, Alex Romero, Santos María, Anthony Fernández and César Pilarte.
The directors of Abadina presented the plaque accrediting Bameso as “Club of the Year 2025” to Alberto Castro and Augusto Castro, president and advisor of the entity, respectively, and to the also Bamesian advisor, the lawyer Pedro Lara.
