Real Madrid Loses Appeal and Match Against Osasuna Remains

The National Second Instance Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (REF) has rejected the appeal filed by Real Madrid. The decision refers to the match of the first league match against Osasuna, which remains on the original date of August 19. The merengue club had appealed the decision of the Sole Judge of Competitions, who had previously denied the request to postpone the match until October 29. Real Madrid argued their participation in the Club World Cup as a reason for the postponement. The white team reached the semi-finals of the Club World Cup, where they were defeated by PSG on July 9th.

“Neither the argument of participation in the Club World Cup nor having a larger or smaller squad, in themselves, constitute the occurrence of a force majeure cause.”

Resolution of the National Committee of Second Instance
The resolution issued this Tuesday explains that participation in the Club World Cup was a known and foreseeable event for the club. Therefore, one of the essential requirements to invoke a force majeure event is not met, which is the unpredictability of the events that would justify the postponement of the official match.
