The Dominican Republic delegation continues to reap successes in the XX Bolivarian Sports Games, adding nine medals after Tuesday’s day in Lima, Peru. The Dominican team has achieved one gold, four silvers and four bronzes so far in the event.
Fight: Three Medals for Dominican Republic
The sport of wrestling contributed two silver medals and one bronze, culminating its participation with a total of five medals in this edition of the Bolivarian Games.
Julio Rafael Rodríguez won the silver medal in the 74 kg men’s freestyle, after losing to the Venezuelan Harry Duno. Rodríguez had an outstanding previous performance, defeating representatives from El Salvador and Bolivia, and overcoming the Peruvian Sixto Auccapiña Pedragas in the semi-final, who took the bronze.
Elison Adames García also took silver in the 125 kg, being surpassed by the Venezuelan José Daniel Díaz Roberti. Luis Miguel Pérez Sosa won the bronze in the 97 kg, defeating the Peruvian Kensil Alexander Grajals.
In other results, Braian Polanco Nicudemus was out of the fight for the bronze in the 57 kg.
Field Hockey: Historic Victory
The Dominican Republic’s field hockey team starred in an impressive 26-0 victory against Bolivia.
Argeny Cabrera led the attack with four goals, followed by Ramón Domínguez, Jefry Monción, and Francisco Javier García, who scored three goals each. Bladis Quezada and Luis Mora Castillo contributed two goals each.
With this result, the Dominican team is in third place with a 2-1 record.
The next challenge will be against Venezuela.
Badminton: Advance to Quarterfinals
Nairobi Jiménez and Jonathan Linarez advanced to the quarterfinals in the badminton tournament.
Jiménez defeated Daniela Hernández from El Salvador in three sets, while Linarez defeated Fabrizio Prudencio from Bolivia in two sets.
In the quarterfinals, Jiménez will face Namie Yimahira from Peru, and Linarez will face Adriano Viale, also from Peru.
Other results: Alissa Acosta and Anderson Taveras were defeated in their respective matches. Víctor Ovalles also fell to his opponent.
Softball: Victory and Defeat
The women’s softball team had a win and a loss on the day.
Atalyia Rijo hit a two-run home run to secure the 5-2 victory over Peru.
In the second game, Dominican Republic lost 2-6 against Venezuela.
The Dominican team will face Bolivia in their next match.
Fencing: Elsa Mateo in Fourth Place
Elsa Mateo finished in fourth place in the épée event of the fencing tournament.
Mateo concluded the tournament with four wins and two losses.
