Prosecution Requests Conviction for Wander Franco in Abuse Case
Puerto Plata. The Public Ministry presented its conclusions this Wednesday in the trial against Wander Franco, requesting a five-year prison sentence for the baseball player, accused of alleged sexual abuse and exploitation of a minor.
The request was made during the presentation of conclusions in the trial taking place in this province.
In addition to the prison sentence, the prosecution has requested that Franco serve his sentence in the Puerto Plata Correction and Rehabilitation Center, and that he pay a fine equivalent to 10 minimum wages.
According to the indictment, Franco had a relationship with the teenager since December 2022. It is alleged that he kept her under his control for several days after the young woman was moved from the Los Ciruelos sector, in the municipality of Villa Montellano.
The Public Ministry maintains that the accused maintained a sentimental relationship with the minor for several months and that he allegedly made monthly payments of 100,000 pesos to facilitate meetings and outings with the young woman.
In the same legal process, Martha Vanessa Chevalier, the teenager’s mother, is also charged. The prosecution has requested a 10-year prison sentence for Chevalier, which would be served at the CCR Rafey Mujeres, in Santiago, in addition to a fine of 25 minimum wages and the seizure of assets allegedly acquired illegally.
According to the accusation, during a raid conducted on September 28, 2023, 800 thousand pesos and 68 thousand dollars were seized. The Public Ministry claims that this money would be related to the alleged sexual exploitation of the minor.
The condemnation requests were presented after the defense witnesses’ statements concluded.
