Yesid Pira Conquers the Mountain in the National Independence Cycling Tour

Guatemalan cyclist Yesid Pira demonstrated his superiority in the third stage of the 47th National Independence Cycling Tour, held between Santo Domingo and Rancho Arriba (San José de Ocoa), covering a distance of 158 kilometers. Pira, representing the Hino One La Red team, won with a time of 3 hours, 40 minutes and 03 seconds in the demanding mountain stage, consolidating his dominance in the competition. The stage’s start took place at the Banreservas Tower, with the executive vice president of the entity, Fernando Mir, giving the starting signal. The race was characterized by a frenetic pace from the start, keeping the peloton compact until the final climbs. It was in this section where Pira launched a crucial attack, securing the victory. His teammate, César Paredes, and Jorge Abreu, from the R2R Cycling Team, reached the finish line in second and third place, respectively. Wilmar Paredes, from Team Medellín, finished in fourth position, 16 seconds behind the winner, which allowed him to ascend to the leadership of the general classification with an accumulated time of 8:54.52. Joseph Ramírez (Verrazano-Santiago) is in second place, 32 seconds behind.

On Saturday 28th, the penultimate stage will be held on the Santo Domingo–Circunvalación Santo Domingo Norte route (138 kilometers). The 47th edition of the cycling tour will conclude on Sunday, March 1st with a final circuit in the monumental area of Santiago. The event is organized by the Dominican Cycling Federation, with the support of the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency, the Ministry of Sports, Banreservas, Seaboard and Economic Dining Halls, among other institutions.
