Fernando Tatis Jr. Untouchable for the San Diego Padres

SANTO DOMINGO. The San Diego Padres are active in the market, looking to make significant moves during the offseason, however, Dominican superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. is not in the equation for any high-impact trade, according to General Manager A.J. Preller. Amidst the offseason rumors, Preller was clear in ruling out the possibility of Tatis Jr. being part of any trade, even though the team is evaluating aggressive options to strengthen its roster.

“It’s someone we won’t mention, you can interpret it any way you want,” Preller declared.

The executive’s statement reinforces the idea that Tatis Jr. remains fundamental to the Padres’ project, despite speculation about a possible restructuring of the team after an irregular season. Under Preller’s direction, San Diego has been known for its surprising moves in the offseason, which keeps the team in the spotlight of the market. Although the Winter Meetings saw no activity for the organization, the executive indicated that important maneuvers could occur, but none that involve the outstanding Dominican player. Thus, the Padres will continue to build their competitive plan for 2026 around Tatis Jr., who remains one of the team’s pillars.
