Mourinho denies Real Madrid contacts and focuses on Benfica

LISBON – José Mourinho, renowned Portuguese coach, has flatly denied any approach from Real Madrid, thus dispelling speculation about a possible return to the white bench. “From Real Madrid, nobody spoke to me, I can guarantee it,” Mourinho declared in a press conference prior to the match between his team, Benfica, and Famalicão in the Portuguese league. The coach, who led the merengue team between 2010 and 2013, downplayed the importance of the rumors and emphasized his commitment to the current project in Lisbon. In addition, he recalled that he still has a year left on his contract with the club.

I am focused on fulfilling my contract with Benfica.

When asked about his future, Mourinho preferred not to go into details and reiterated his priority of honoring his commitment to Benfica. His goal is clear: to take the team to the Champions League. The name of the experienced strategist had been mentioned as a possible replacement for Álvaro Arbeloa in the white team, but Mourinho made it clear that he does not contemplate an immediate departure. Currently, Benfica is in second position in the Portuguese league with 75 points, seven behind leader FC Porto, in the final phase of the championship.
