JUPITER, Florida – The young talent continues to shine in spring training, and this time the focus fell on the Dominican Miguel Sime Jr. At just 18 years old, Sime Jr. dazzled by reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour from the mound during Spring Breakout. The Washington Nationals prospect starred in one of the most impactful moments of the game by facing JJ Wetherholt, recognized as one of the most outstanding talents in baseball. In a full count, Sime threw a 100.8 mph fastball, causing a missed swing that even made the batter’s helmet fly off. Despite starting the inning with a 3-0 disadvantage, the young pitcher demonstrated composure and recovery ability, combining his repertoire with effective sliders before finishing with his powerful high fastball. Sime’s dominance was not by chance. Of his 21 pitches in the game, nine exceeded 100 mph, solidifying his position as one of the most exciting pitching prospects in the minor leagues. Selected in the fourth round of the 2025 Draft, the Dominican-born pitcher has shown a rapid evolution, driven by his work ethic and consistency in developing his skills.
Sime made it clear that, although his speed is already elite, his focus remains on perfecting his mechanics and control. It’s exactly where I want to be
