Francisco Lindor to the Injured List: Another Setback for the Mets

NEW YORK – The New York Mets have suffered another blow. Just one day before Juan Soto’s return, the team has placed star shortstop Francisco Lindor on the 10-day injured list due to a left calf strain. Lindor’s injury occurred while running the bases during the game against the Minnesota Twins, a match that ended with a 3-2 victory for the Mets, ending a streak of 12 consecutive losses. To cover the absence, the team has promoted Dominican infielder Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A. This setback comes at an inopportune moment for Lindor, who was showing an improvement in his offensive performance after a slow start to the season. In his last five games, Lindor batted .412, with seven hits in 17 at-bats, including a home run, a double, and four RBIs. So far this season, his offensive line is .226/.314/.355. The absence of the Puerto Rican shortstop will force the Mets to readjust their infield. Among the options for the team, they are considering moving Bo Bichette back to shortstop, a position he occupied in the final stretch of the previous game, or keeping him at third base and giving Ronny Mauricio more prominence. Mauricio joins the team after excelling in the minor leagues, where he maintained a .293 average and a .987 OPS. In addition, he hit three home runs in a game in Triple-A Syracuse and previously contributed a decisive hit in a brief stint with the big league team earlier this month. This situation represents a new challenge for the Mets in an irregular season, especially now that they must compensate for the loss of one of their main figures, right after recovering Juan Soto to reinforce the lineup.
