Carlos Mendoza will continue to lead the New York Mets until 2026

Venezuelan manager Carlos Mendoza will continue to lead the New York Mets in the 2026 season. This was confirmed by general manager David Stearns this Monday, a day after the team was eliminated from postseason contention after losing their last game against the Marlins.

Stearns also reported that in the coming days the technical staff will be evaluated to determine the future of the coaches, although he reiterated his full confidence in Mendoza to lead the team.

This decision dispels doubts about the continuity of the Venezuelan pilot, who in 2024 led the Mets to the National League Championship Series. In addition, during this year, the team maintained the best MLB record until mid-June (45-24).

However, the second half of the season presented difficulties for the Mets, with a record of 38-55 in their last 93 games, finishing with a record of 83-79 and being left out of the fight for the last wild card in the National League.

Mendoza, 45 years old, has a guaranteed contract until 2026, with an option for 2027, after signing in November 2023 for three seasons.

The Mets owner, Steve Cohen, publicly apologized to the fans after the elimination, assuring that the organization is working to compete again at the highest level.
