Mets Bolster Offense with Tommy Pham’s Return
The New York Mets have made their moves in search of strengthening their offensive production. The organization announced the activation of veteran outfielder Tommy Pham and, in a parallel move, the sending of the Dominican Ronny Mauricio to the minor leagues.
Pham’s incorporation took place before the start of the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This decision seeks to inject energy into a lineup that has shown difficulties, accumulating five consecutive losses.
Pham, 38, signed a minor league contract at the end of March. In his time in Class-A, he participated in five games, recording two hits in 12 at-bats, including a double. The outfielder already had a previous stint with the Mets in 2023, where he averaged .268, with 10 home runs and an OPS of .820 in 79 games, before being transferred to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Pham’s journey in the Major Leagues began in 2014 with the St. Louis Cardinals. Throughout his career, he has played for ten teams, standing out as an experienced hitter with the ability to perform against left-handed pitchers.
On the other hand, Mauricio was sent to Triple-A after a brief stint with the big league team. In two games, he had one hit in four at-bats, including an important hit against Arizona. His demotion is due to the need to adjust the roster and his status as a player with available options.
The Mets hope Pham’s arrival will revitalize an offense that has struggled, especially due to the absence of Juan Soto, who is on the injured list with a calf strain. During the losing streak, the team has averaged 1.6 runs per game.
The team leader trusts that Pham’s experience and his performance against left-handed pitchers can make an immediate difference, starting from the first game of the series in Los Angeles.
