Lionel Messi Raises Concerns at Inter Miami Due to Injury

The Argentinian star Lionel Messi caused concern in Inter Miami and among his fans by leaving the Leagues Cup match against Necaxa due to an injury, just 11 minutes into the game. The captain of the Florida team collapsed on the field in the first minutes of the game, showing signs of a possible muscle ailment. Immediately, he was substituted by his compatriot Federico Redondo. Messi’s absence occurred at an unexpected moment, as he had been crucial with two assists in Inter Miami’s debut in the competition, in the 2-1 victory over Atlas. A minute after Messi’s departure, Telasco Segovia put the team coached by Gerardo “Tata” Martino ahead, after a collective play with Rodrigo de Paul and Luis Suárez. Recently, Messi had pointed out that the lack of continuity affects him physically, recalling that he could not play last July 26 against Cincinnati due to a sanction imposed after his absence from the MLS All-Star.

“Not having played the other day, if it seems better a priori, for me it’s worse because I need to compete. I feel physically as I play matches, as I get into rhythm,” he said after the match against Atlas.

Before this incident, Inter Miami had faced a very demanding schedule, with nine matches in 35 days between the Club World Cup and MLS, including a streak of five matches in just 15 days. While awaiting the results of the medical tests, the club and fans hope that the injury is not serious and that Messi will be available for the decisive phase of the tournament.
