SANTO DOMINGO, RD. – Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred was present this Tuesday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium, witnessing the exhibition game between the Dominican Republic national team and the Detroit Tigers. During his visit, the Major League Baseball chief executive highlighted the Dominican public’s fervor and reiterated MLB’s commitment to expanding its presence in the country.
Manfred pointed out that, if a modern stadium that meets the requirements of the league is available, it would be easier for the Dominican Republic to host regular season official games, as well as World Baseball Classic matches in the future. Furthermore, Manfred applauded the support of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, in the development and support of baseball.Baseball is an essential part of Dominican culture. If the right infrastructure conditions are met, it would be more viable to bring official MLB events.

The commissioner also revealed that the initiative to hold this exhibition series in Dominican territory came from a proposal by former player and current executive Nelson Cruz, who has been a key factor in strengthening the ties between MLB and the Dominican Republic. The presence of Manfred in Quisqueya underscores the country’s relevance in the international baseball scene and opens the possibility for local fans to enjoy official Major League events at home.We cannot ask more of the president, he has supported us in everything we have requested.
