Luisito Pie Heads the COD Athletes Commission After Historic Elections

Santo Domingo – Olympic medalist Luisito Pie has been elected president of the Athletes’ Commission of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) in an election that marked a milestone for national sport. The vote took place this Friday in the Juan Ulises García Saleta hall of the Olympic organization. Pie, highlighted in taekwondo, obtained a total of 82 votes, surpassing the other six candidates. This result reflects clear support from the sports community for his leadership. In the same election, former volleyball player Camil Domínguez was elected as vice president with 54 votes. Beatriz Pirón, weightlifter, and Frandiel Gómez, diver, will also be part of the commission, with 41 and 37 votes respectively. The fifth member will be appointed by the COD executive committee.

Following his swearing-in, Pie assured that his management will not be linked to any specific federation. He thanked the COD for organizing the electoral process, which included the participation of Irina Pérez, Miguel Rivera, and José Mera. Engineer Garibaldy Bautista, president of the COD, highlighted the importance of addressing the needs of the athletes, complying with the requirements of the International Olympic Committee and Panam Sports. A total of 104 athletes exercised their right to vote, out of a register of 535 registered. Other candidates who participated in the election were Johanna Pimentel (handball), Yúnior Alcántara (boxing) and Félix Hermida (Clay Shooting).
