Santo Domingo – Los Leones del Escogido delivered a blow in the Dominican Republic’s professional baseball tournament by defeating the Gigantes del Cibao with a score of 5-1. For their part, the Toros del Este took advantage of the day to consolidate themselves in second place, after defeating the Águilas Cibaeñas with a resounding 3-0.
With this victory, the Escogido consolidates its position with an 11-4 record, ensuring at least a tie in the qualifying zone, with three games remaining to be played in the Round Robin. In the match held in San Francisco de Macorís, the red team demonstrated their power from the first inning. Alcides Escobar opened the scoring with a solo home run. Subsequently, a combination of hits and walks loaded the bases, and José Marmolejos hit a single to left field that, added to a defensive error, allowed three more runs to be scored, establishing a 4-0 on the scoreboard.

The orange offense broke the tie in the eighth inning, thanks to a two-run double hit by Jeimer Candelario, followed by a sacrifice fly from Sergio Alcántara that sealed the score.
