SANTO DOMINGO – The Baseball Operations management of the Leones del Escogido announced the retention of Erik González, Sócrates Brito, Franchy Cordero, José Marmolejos, and Alexander Colomé, who will continue to defend the scarlet colors after the recent list of free agents.
Key Figures Secured
Erik González, a 34-year-old shortstop, arrives after winning the Gold Glove and being recognized as the Gentleman of the Year in the 2025-26 tournament. In the regular season, he batted .299 with an OPS of .759, driving in 14 runs and scoring 25 in 44 games. In the postseason, he maintained his performance with a .281 average, .350 OBP, six stolen bases and eight RBIs in 23 games.
Gardener Sócrates Brito, 33, participated in 45 regular season games, recording a .294 average, three home runs, 25 RBIs, and nine stolen bases. In the playoffs, he was crucial to the championship, contributing 12 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 23 games.
Franchy Cordero tied his personal record for home runs in a season (5), something he hadn’t achieved since 2017-18. In 40 games, he batted .263, with 17 RBIs and an OPS of .775. In addition, he stood out in the 2026 Caribbean Series in Guadalajara, leading the tournament with three home runs and six RBIs.
José Marmolejos, first baseman and outfielder, had a solid performance in 26 regular season games, with a .269 average and a .785 OPS. He highlighted a streak of 11 consecutive games hitting in December. In the Round Robin, he was key with 11 RBIs and a .276 average.
In the relay, Alexander Colomé, 37 years old, demonstrated his experience in crucial moments. In the postseason, he pitched 8.1 innings without allowing earned runs, with six strikeouts and a 2-0 record. Since the 2024-25 tournament, he has accumulated 21.1 consecutive innings without earned runs in the playoffs, solidifying himself as a reliable arm.
The five players will act under the mutual option modality, which grants the Escogido the right of reservation for the 2027-28 season.
With these renovations, the team strengthens its base, and new signings from its free agents are expected to be announced soon.
