Kelvin Cruz Celebrates Collaboration for Sports Development in Santo Domingo
The Minister of Sports of the Dominican Republic, Kelvin Cruz, has expressed his satisfaction with the alliance between President Luis Abinader and the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, in favor of sports. This occurred during the inauguration of the new Malecón Deportivo. Cruz highlighted that these initiatives demonstrate the importance of authorities prioritizing sports in their management. They see it not only as a tool for physical development, but also as a driver of social and community transformation.The official also highlighted the impact of the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games on the city. He noted that the excitement of the event has driven an urban and sporting transformation in the capital. “It has overflowed throughout the city, not only in the transformation in terms of infrastructure that we are promoting from the Olympic Center and the Parque del Este, but also in works like this, facing the sea, which are a true work of art,” he affirmed. Cruz valued President Abinader’s support for sports and his closeness to the youth. Also, the coordination with Mayor Carolina Mejía in the execution of urban projects related to citizen well-being. The minister emphasized the importance of continuing with these urban interventions. He proposed the creation of ecological corridors and spaces for walking and taking care of health, connecting different areas of the coastline. “How good that he has committed to continue promoting development to close that idle part and give continuity to an ecological and health corridor, so that the people of the capital and Dominicans have a harmonious view combined with sports,” he expressed. Finally, Cruz emphasized that, in addition to the state investment in sports infrastructure, which exceeds 6,000 million pesos in facilities such as the Olympic Center and the Parque del Este, it is crucial to foster a culture of maintenance and care for these works to ensure their sustainability.“I think it’s excellent. We always encourage authorities to have a chapter for sports within their agenda, to assume a social responsibility, and how good that it is used as a municipal change tool”, said the minister.
