Kelvin Cruz Doubles Contribution to TBS Santo Domingo 2026: RD$2 Million

Santo Domingo. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, announced a significant investment for the X Superior Basketball Championship of Santo Domingo Province (TBS Santo Domingo 2026).The Ministry of Sports will double its economic contribution, allocating two million pesos for the event.The tournament, dedicated to President Luis Abinader, will begin on Friday, March 6th at 7:00 PM at the Los Alcarrizos sports complex. The opening match will pit the defending champions, Caminantes de Los Alcarrizos, against the runners-up, Trenes de Santo Domingo Norte.The announcement was made at a press conference at the Ministry of Sports, where Minister Cruz highlighted the importance of the championship for the sports and social development of the province.

We ratify our firm support for the TBS Santo Domingo 2026, a tournament that directly impacts the urban fabric with the highest population concentration and with a significant presence of young athletes. With this increase in the contribution, we seek to guarantee an event that meets expectations.

Cruz also highlighted President Abinader’s support for national sports, mentioning the construction and remodeling of more than 100 sports centers and multipurpose facilities throughout the country, which contribute to social transformation and the strengthening of youth.

The activity was attended by Ángel De la Cruz, president of the Organizing Committee and the Presidential Commission for Support of Provincial Development; Garibaldi Bautista, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD); and William Cabral Lugo, president of the Santo Domingo Basketball Association (Abasado).Municipal and provincial authorities also attended, as well as representatives from the sports and business sectors.Ramón Ceballos and Maikel Rodríguez will be in charge of the technical direction of the tournament.With institutional support and the participation of the main franchises in the province, the TBS Santo Domingo 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most relevant sporting events on the national calendar.
