The renowned former heavyweight world champion, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a serious traffic accident in Nigeria, which unfortunately claimed the lives of two of his friends and teammates. Authorities and sources close to the case confirmed the news, generating shock in the sports world. The tragic event took place on December 29, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, one of the most important arterial roads in the African country. According to preliminary reports from the Nigerian Traffic Police, the vehicle Joshua was traveling in, a Lexus SUV, suffered a tire explosion due to speeding. This incident triggered a failed maneuver that culminated in a collision with a truck parked off the road.
As a result of the accident, Anthony Joshua, 36 years old, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in Lagos, where he is stable under medical observation. Unfortunately, two of his close friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, lost their lives instantly at the scene of the accident. Both were part of Joshua’s training team and accompanied him during his stay in Nigeria. The van driver remains hospitalized in intensive care after the impact. Joshua’s family, who were in the country, were informed of the accident through calls from acquaintances seeking information about his condition. His aunt described the news as “really shocking”.
