José Ramírez: Will he play in the World Baseball Classic?
José Ramírez’s participation in the upcoming World Baseball Classic is uncertain. The star Dominican third baseman, during the presentation of his contract extension with the Cleveland Guardians, avoided confirming his availability for the event. Ramírez preferred to focus on his new contractual agreement with the organization. “I don’t want to talk about the topic of the Classic right now. We are focused on my contract and that’s all I can tell you,” he declared to the media.Although in the past I had expressed interest in representing the Dominican Republic in the Classic, reports suggest doubts about his participation. The national team is expected to issue a statement to clarify the situation.
Recently, the Major League portal ranked Ramírez as the fifth-best baseball player and the best Dominican in the Majors, which reinforces his position as a prominent figure. Ramirez and the Cleveland Guardians agreed to a seven-year, $175 million contract extension, securing his stay with the franchise. The player, originally from Baní, thanked the organization for the trust placed in him. “The organization gave me the opportunity when I was 16 years old and my whole family is happy here. I know there are comments about the money, but this is where I want to be,” he affirmed. Ramírez describes himself as “half Cleveland and half Dominican Republic,” highlighting that he resides in the city and that his children were born there. He also recalled the initial challenges of his career and the crucial support from the Guardians. “Since I signed, I had the mentality of finishing here. I was rejected a lot when I was young and Cleveland gave me the opportunity. That’s why I wanted to stay in this organization,” he concluded. My dream remains the same: to win a World Series
