Julio Rodríguez Shines with Home Run in Mariners Victory
Dominican outfielder Julio Rodríguez shone again with the bat, hitting an impressive 436-foot home run that led the Seattle Mariners to a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves at T-Mobile Park this Wednesday.
Rodríguez showed his power in the sixth inning, driving the ball with an exit velocity of 110.4 miles per hour towards the T-Mobile Pen. After the hit, the center fielder celebrated enthusiastically, including a striking “bat flip” that ignited the local fans.
The Dominican’s offensive complemented the outstanding performance of right-handed pitcher Bryan Woo, who kept one of the MLB’s most dangerous lineups at bay, accumulating nine strikeouts.
In the eighth episode, a key play in favor of the Mariners was made possible thanks to the video team’s review. After an attempt to reverse the play by Venezuelan Eduard Bazardo on Jorge Mateo, Seattle requested the review and managed to overturn the initial decision, obtaining an important second out that stopped Atlanta’s threat.
Josh Naylor added a crucial run after scoring with a double by Cole Young, who extended his lead in RBIs within the team with 20.
In relief, Puerto Rican José A. Ferrer secured his second save of the season, becoming the first Seattle reliever to pitch for three consecutive days so far this year.
MLB Suspensions: Framber Valdez and A.J. Hinch
Major League Baseball announced a six-game suspension for Dominican pitcher Framber Valdez of the Detroit Tigers for intentionally throwing at Trevor Story during Tuesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.
Additionally, MLB reported that manager A.J. Hinch was suspended for one game and fined due to the actions that occurred in the game held at Comerica Park.
Valdez appealed the sanction, so he will be able to remain active while the disciplinary process is resolved.
