Santo Domingo.

Framber Valdez, Dominican pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, has been suspended for six games by Major League Baseball following an incident during Tuesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox, where he hit shortstop Trevor Story with a pitch.

The announcement of the sanction, which also includes an economic fine whose amount has not been revealed, was made this Wednesday by Major League Baseball.

Detroit manager A. J. Hinch also received a one-game suspension and a financial fine, which he will serve immediately.

The incident took place in the fourth inning of the game, after Valdez allowed two consecutive home runs. After the hit by pitch to Story, both teams left the benches, generating tension on the field, although without escalating further.

The Dominican left-handed pitcher has decided to appeal the suspension, which will allow him to remain active while the disciplinary review process by MLB is completed.

Valdez is in his first season with Detroit and has been key in the team’s rotation, especially due to the injuries that have affected the pitching staff.
