New Gymnastics Pavilion: A Legacy for Dominican Sports

The Parque del Este is transformed into a high-precision center for athletes. The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, and the Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), Víctor – Ito – Bisonó, led the delivery of the total remodeling works of the Gymnastics Pavilion. This intervention, as part of the preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, ensures world-class facilities for the athletes.

Minister Bison emphasized that the MIVHED has fulfilled the construction and dignification of these facilities. Now, sports authorities, federations, and athletes must assume responsibility for their care and responsible use. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, approved the construction and confirmed that the space meets the requirements for athletes. With 99 days until the start of the Central American and Caribbean Games, the delivery schedule is on track. The president of the Organizing Committee of the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, José P. Monegro, pointed out that the pavilion is one of the most impressive in Central America and the Caribbean.

Pavilion Details

The work included a comprehensive remodeling of 10,785.48 square meters, optimizing every corner for athletes and spectators. It highlights a competition area of nearly 2,800 square meters with specialized lighting of 1500 LUX, designed for television broadcasts and technical precision. In addition, a 1,500-square-meter warm-up area allows athletes to prepare in optimal conditions. The renovated Gymnastics Pavilion has a capacity of 3,623 people, with modern stands, VIP boxes, and press areas. It has health areas, specialized medical zones, and massage areas for the recovery of athletes. It also has separate gyms for children and adults, referee areas, and state-of-the-art locker rooms. For the public, the venue offers a cafeteria, snack bar, and inclusive restrooms adapted for people with disabilities. It includes Closed Circuit Television systems, high-speed data networks, and the renovation of electrical and sanitary systems. The investment in the remodeling was RD$260.3 million pesos.

Towards Santo Domingo 2026

This delivery reaffirms the government’s commitment to sports and Minister Ito Bisonó’s commitment to the success of the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games. The Gymnastics Pavilion will serve as the official venue during the sporting event and will leave a legacy for the development of young talent in Santo Domingo Este. In the handover ceremony, the governor of the Province of Santo Domingo, Lucrecia de los Santos, participated; the mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Dio Astacio; the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), Garibaldi Bautista; the president of the Dominican Gymnastics Federation (FEDOGIM), Edwin Rodríguez, along with other authorities from the sports and governmental sector.
