PHOENIX. The Arizona Diamondbacks suffered a setback this Tuesday after the injury of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was confirmed, who will be out for the rest of the 2025 season.
Gurriel Jr. Suffers ACL Tear
The Cuban gardener suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, which will keep him off the playing fields for the rest of the season.The injury occurred during Monday’s game against the Rangers. Gurriel tried to avoid a collision with Blaze Alexander, who made a spectacular catch. Although there was no contact, Gurriel put his weight on his leg awkwardly and fell to the ground.Gurriel, 31 years old, was assisted on the field and taken off in a medical cart. The severity of the injury confirms that he will not return for the remainder of the season.The absence of Gurriel is a blow to the Diamondbacks, who still have a chance to qualify for the postseason. The outfielder was in great offensive form.Gurriel had driven in 32 runs since August 1, second only to Kyle Schwarber (33) in the Major Leagues.“I made the play and had no idea what had happened behind me,” Alexander recounted after the game that the D-backs lost 7-5 in 10 innings. “When I turned around, I saw Gurriel on the ground and I was immediately worried.”
