Great Britain Makes History in Mixed Snowboard Cross and Wins Olympic Gold

Great Britain won the gold medal in the mixed team snowboard cross event at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, marking a historic milestone for the country in snow sports. The British duo, composed of Huw Nightingale and Charlotte Bankes, dominated the competition from the preliminary rounds, securing the best times in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final. This victory represents the first British Olympic gold medal in a snow sport, a significant achievement for the country, which had previously accumulated fourteen gold medals in ice disciplines since 1908. The British team adds its second gold medal in Milan-Cortina 2026, after Matt Weston’s victory in skeleton. Italy and France completed the podium. The hosts, represented by Lorenzo Sommariva and Michela Moioli, won silver. For Moioli, this is her second medal in the mixed event, after the runner-up finish in 2022, in addition to an individual bronze. Bronze went to the French pair of Loan Bozzolo and Léa Casta, while Australia finished in fourth position. The mixed team snowboard cross event had its second appearance in the Olympic program, debuting in Beijing 2022, where the United States won gold. With this outstanding performance, Great Britain consolidates the growth of snowboarding within its sports structure, leaving an indelible mark on the Olympic history of winter sports.
