GLENDALE, Arizona. The stellar first baseman Freddie Freeman has expressed his firm desire to continue his career in the ranks of the Los Angeles Dodgers, thus seeking to end his career in baseball with his hometown team. After four seasons defending the Los Angeles jersey, Freeman has expressed his aspiration to play until he’s 40, which would mean at least four more seasons in the Major Leagues. Despite having a contract for two more years, the player doesn’t hide his intention to retire in Los Angeles.
Since his arrival in 2022, Freeman has established himself as a key player on the team. His performance in the 2024 World Series, including a memorable grand slam that defined the first game against the Yankees, was etched in the memory of the fans. In his four seasons with the Dodgers, Freeman has maintained an outstanding offensive line of .310/.391/.516, demonstrating his consistency in the game. For the 2026 season, the starting player has clear goals. He aims to play all 162 games of the regular season and all postseason games. Although manager Dave Roberts has been cautious with his rest days, Freeman insists on preparing to be available every day. In the individual sphere, he seeks to recover his average above .300, after closing 2025 with .295, one of the best records in the National League. After overcoming the rehabilitation of his right ankle, operated last spring, he is confident in improving his performance both offensively and defensively. In the long run, the first baseman also has his sights set on the exclusive 3,000-hit club. Currently the active hits leader in the Majors, he needs 569 to reach the figure, an achievable goal if he maintains his usual production in the coming seasons. With 16 seasons in the Major Leagues, Freeman’s motivation remains intact. His passion for the game and the desire to compete at the highest level continue to drive him as he approaches the twilight of a career that is already historic and that, if it depends on him, will conclude wearing blue in Los Angeles.I love being here, the veteran expressed, highlighting the support of the fans and the treatment towards his family. Although he avoided referring to a future negotiation, he made it clear that his priority is to fulfill his contract and continue contributing on the field.
