SANTO DOMINGO – The starting pitchers market for the 2025-26 season is taking shape, and Dominican Framber Valdez is at the center of attention, sparking the interest of several contending teams.
According to reports, the lefty met with the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, and Baltimore Orioles during the recent General Managers Meetings.
Valdez, with a solid career ERA of 3.36 in 1,080.2 innings, is shaping up as the most impactful starting pitcher available after Dylan Cease signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Giants evaluate their options
From San Francisco, reports on the club’s aggressiveness in the search for an elite starter are varied.
Some sources indicate that they could opt for lower-cost alternatives, instead of high-profile pitchers like Valdez, the Venezuelan Ranger Suárez or the Japanese Tatsuya Imai.
However, the team does not rule out moves via trade, including prospect Bryce Eldridge as a possible bargaining chip.
Mets Seek an Ace, But Cautiously
Although the Mets have expressed that a number one starter is their priority for this winter, management is cautious about offering long-term contracts.
It is reported that New York prefers shorter agreements, which could complicate negotiations with Valdez, who would seek a contract commensurate with his status.
Orioles, always attentive to the market
The Orioles maintain an active presence in the market, seeking to reinforce their rotation and showing interest in several highly-rated pitchers.
The meeting with Valdez is part of their strategy to stay competitive in the American League East Division.
