Valdez Shines and Tigres Avoid Sweep Against Bravos
ATLANTA – Dominican pitcher Framber Valdez delivered a standout performance, and the Detroit Tigers’ offense responded strongly to defeat the Atlanta Braves 5-2, avoiding the sweep in the series.
Valdez, with a solid performance, pitched for six innings, allowing only two runs and keeping his team in contention. His performance was crucial for the Tigers to be able to react offensively.
Detroit’s comeback was achieved in the eighth inning. Kerry Carpenter started with a triple against Dominican reliever Joel Payamps. Matt Vierling then hit a double that tied the score, setting the stage for Venezuelan Gleyber Torres to drive in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.
In the ninth inning, the Tigers extended their lead with two additional runs, taking advantage of the opposing pitcher’s lack of control and defensive errors. Wenceel Pérez, also Dominican, scored one of the runs after receiving a walk, and Dillon Dingler drove in another with a double.
Drew Anderson earned the victory, pitching two scoreless innings. Kyle Finnegan closed out the game, securing his first save of the season.
With this victory, Detroit tied its record at 16-16, demonstrating its ability to react in a crucial game against Atlanta.
