The pre-candidate for the presidency of FC Barcelona, Víctor Font, has revealed his ambitious proposals related to Lionel Messi, seeking to strengthen the bond between the club and its legendary player.

A Blaugrana Future for Messi

Font has presented three key initiatives: naming Messi honorary club president, establishing a strategic commercial alliance, and offering him the opportunity to retire as a Barcelona player. Messi has to retire and has to say goodbye to all the culés on the pitch. Font emphasized that Messi’s return to the field for his farewell will depend on his willingness and the club’s sporting situation. During an event in Barcelona, Font, who came in second place in the previous elections, explained that he presented the Messi family with a plan for their return to the Catalan club at the end of 2023, when the player was already playing for Inter Miami. Font revealed that the only obstacle to Messi’s return is Joan Laporta. The Font project seeks a “reconciliation” between the club and Messi, structured in three areas:
  • Institutional
  • Economic
  • Sports
In the institutional sphere, Font proposes to name Messi honorary president, a position that would require a statutory reform and the approval of the members’ assembly. Font considers Messi to be the best ambassador for the club worldwide and represents the values of Barcelona. The businessman called Messi’s departure “one of the biggest mistakes” of the club, highlighting the loss of economic opportunities and international projection. The Font team studied collaboration models between major sports figures, such as Michael Jordan and Nike, to assess the commercial potential of a strategic alliance between Messi and FC Barcelona. The sports project is not limited to a return as a player, but rather contemplates a long-term relationship that allows Messi to say goodbye to Barcelona and contribute to the strengthening of the club. Font indicated that starting in January 2027, they could begin to “lay the groundwork”, when the season in the United States concludes, although Messi’s current contract with Inter Miami expires in December 2028. Font reiterated that his candidacy will work to “re-establish ties” with Messi if he obtains the support of the members. Furthermore, he recalled that, in his opinion, Messi was “deceived twice” by the current board. Font insisted that any operation of this type must be approached with “economic rigor and legal viability”. Finally, Font called on the partners to “open a new stage” in the history of FC Barcelona.
