Enny Romero Overcomes Fever and Shines in the Caribbean Series

Dominican pitcher Enny Romero revealed that his outstanding performance against the Cangrejeros de Santurce in the Caribbean Series came after overcoming a fever the night before.

Last night I had to go to bed early to rest, I took some pills, I drank a hot tea and sweated out the fever. This morning I already felt a little better.

Romero, 35 years old, dominated the Cangrejeros de Santurce, limiting them to only 3 hits in 5 innings and obtaining the victory by 5-3 for the Leones del Escogido, who lead the championship with two consecutive wins.

Today I didn’t go out with the mentality of striking anyone out, but of them ‘swinging’. They are aggressive hitters and I was able to win.

The experienced left-handed pitcher, with a career in the Major Leagues and currently playing in Japan with the Chunichi Dragons, is seen as a candidate to pitch in the semi-final or final, if his team advances.

I don’t ask for the ball. If Ramón Santiago (the team manager) needs me for the semifinal, for the final or for any other game, I will be available.

Enny Romero
Ramón Santiago, the manager, celebrated the team’s two consecutive victories, but warned about the importance of maintaining focus and determination.

It’s important for us not to get overconfident and to continue with the focus and determination in each game. The series format has already changed. We have to win the semi-final and also the final game. We have a long way to go.

Ramón Santiago
The Leones del Escogido, champions of the last edition of the Caribbean Series, seek their sixth title in Mexico, number 24 for the Dominican Republic. The Dominican team will rest on Tuesday and will face the Federales de Chiriquí from Panama on Wednesday, followed by the Tomateros de Culiacán from Mexico on Thursday.
